Bars of In|justice

URO’s Performing Arts Show

URO’s Bars of In|Justice Performing Arts Show Series brings together community artists to ignite change. Inspired by poetry slams, the series calls on all artists to consider the intersectionality of injustices and share their experiences. We have coordinated two events (2019 & 2021) as part of our Cultural and Educational Programming efforts. More shows to come!

Bars of Injustice: The Ambiente Justica Edition

December 4, 2021

In collaboration with the City of Ithaca’s Green New Deal Initiative 1000 Conversations About Our Future, we invited artists to share their voices about climate justice. We recognize that the same communities most impacted by the criminal (in)justice system are also facing disproportionate impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. In the spirit of solidarity, we titled this show The Ambiente Justica Edition to bring awareness to climate justice movements in South America and globally. There is no social justice without climate justice, and we stand in unity with our brothers and sisters fighting for the future of our world.

Sometimes art communicates the desire for justice more powerfully than any recommendations and proposals, and we want to honor this understanding.
